KARNAL: Three people, including two policemen, received bullet injures as miscreants opened fire inside the Karnal district courtroom here on Tuesday. Police have arrested three people, identified as David of Vikas Naagar and his accomplices Ankush and Aman, in the case.

The injured have been indentified as Jitender Kumar, security assistant at Karnal district court, Ricky, a constable of Kurukshetra police, and Neeraj Punia, a murder accused, who was being produced in the court in a two-year-old murder case.

Though investigation is still going on in the matter, police sources say that three accused allegedly wanted to take revenge for the murder of the relative, who was allegedly shot dead by Punia in 2014.

Talking to HT, Karnal superintendent of police Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said, “Investigation is going on and they have been booked the three accused under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and Arms Act.

Neeraj Punia is a history sheeter and according to police sources he was facing about 30 criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder and loot.

ADVOCATES DEMAND MORE SECURITY

Soon after the incident, advocates raised questions over the security system and policing in the court complex.

“There is no proper security system in the court and people carrying guns are entering the court room,” said a senior advocate Pradeep Kapoor.

Karnal SP said that they are reviewing the security system of the district court complex.
