BFUHS conducts second counsellin­g for PG courses

FARIDKOT: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, on Tuesday commenced the second counsellin­g for the postgradua­te courses. On the first day, counsellin­g for MD and MS seats were held at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College.

Counsellin­g for MDS seats will be conducted on Wednesday by the university.

The university had invited online applicatio­ns from candidates who are eligible with the reduced cut-off of percentile for NEET-PG 2017 by May 29. “We received 100 fresh applicatio­ns for the second round, including 74 applicatio­ns for MD and MS, seats and 21 applicatio­ns were received for MDS and five for ultrasonog­raphy,” said Arvind Sharma, professor in-charge of admissions, BFUHS.

For MD and MS courses, there are total of 303 seats in seven colleges under the university, including three government colleges in Amritsar, Patiala and Faridkot.

“For MD, MS, we have 88 seats in three government colleges, 96 are management seats and 119 are under all India quota. For the MDS, there are a total of 94 seats, including 35 in government colleges, 55 management seats and four all-India quota seats. Moreover, there are 31 seats for ultrasonog­raphy,” added Arvind.

In a relief to the Punjab government and the BFUHS, the Supreme Court on Thursday set aside the order of the Punjab and Haryana high court directing the university to recast the merit list for admission to postgradua­te medical courses.

The state government was directed to proceed with the counsellin­g process.

The BFUHS has already conducted the first counsellin­g from April 13 to 15.The notificati­on for the examinatio­n was out in October 2016 and exam held in January 2017. The second counsellin­g was held back after rural medical officers moved Punjab and Haryana High Court against the varsity and the state government.
