CHANDIGARH: The Congress on Wednesday flayed the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for allegedly failing on all fronts and using cow and Ram temple issues for vote bank politics.

Addressing a press conference here on the completion of the NDA’s three years in power, Congress spokesperson Rajiv Shukla said while the Congress had always been against cow slaughter, the BJP politicised the issue.

Referring to the BJP win in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, the former Union minister said that it was just ahead of the elections that the Ram temple issue was raised by the saffron party.

Shukla said the BJP had failed on all fronts, including national security, terror attacks, defence preparedness, naxalism, foreign policy and ties with neighbouring countries.

He said peace in Kashmir could be restored only by winning the faith of the people of the Valley and promoting tourism there. On the issue of the army’s action against terrorists, he said that the Congress supported whatever action army undertook. Shukla also accused the BJP of implementing all policies of the the UPA government by changing their names. “The BJP government is a government of duplicates,” he said.

Asked if AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi or his sister Priyanka Gandhi would take over the reins of the party in near futute, he said it was their own call.

‘NO BICKERING IN HARYANA CONG’

To a volley of questions pertaining to the increasing bickering in the Haryana Congress, Shukla maintained that there was hardly any groupism or factionalism in the state unit of the party.

On the widening differences between former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state party president Ashok Tanwar, he said it was a very minor issue and the party would resolve it. “But we hear more about the groupism in the ruling BJP in Haryana. It does not matter if there are minor differences in opposition party, but it affects the functioning of the government in case of bickering in the ruling party,” he quipped.
