Arrest accused in a month or face the heat: Daduwal to govt
FARIDKOT : Over 600 members of various Sikh groups gathered at a gurdwara in Kotkapura’s Bargari village to commemorate the second anniversary of the Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege incident of 2015.
Baljit Singh Daduwal, head priest of Takht Damdama Sahib; Simranjit Singh Mann, head of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar; Amrik Singh Ajnala, head priest of Takht Keshgarh Sahib; and Dian Singh Mand, acting Akal Takht jathedar led the gathering.
“People voted for the Congress, believing that given a chance Captain Amarinder Singh would arrest the accused of Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege incidents. The assailant cops behind the killings of two Sikhs (during protests) at Behbal Kalan should be behind bars, but unfortunately nothing has happened. We are here to warn the government to not befool the public as we will not hesitate to launch protests,” said Daduwal. Daduwal alleged the way the Congress was working, it seemed to be an AkaliCongress coalition government. “It is the responsibility of chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to get the accused arrested immediately. We are giving the government a month, following which it would have to face the heat,” he said.
The holy book had gone missing from Jawahar Singh Wala village on June 1, 2015. On October 12, its torn pages were found in Bargari. Two days later, Krishan Bhagwan Singh, 42, of Behbal Khurd and Gurjeet Singh Bittu, 26, of Sarawan village died in police firing during protests against the sacrilege in Behbal Kalan.
Justice Zora Singh Commission that was constituted soon after submitted its report on July 1, 2016, but it was not made public. On April 14, 2017, the Congress government announced a fresh commission of inquiry under justice Ranjit Singh (retd) to probe into the sacrilege and the following incidents.
Expressing disappointment, Amrik Singh Ajnala said: “Sikhs will have to get united to get justice. Even after two years of sacrilege, the accused have been given political shelter. We will not sit quiet now.”
‘AAP, RSS BEHIND SACRILEGE’
Simranjit Singh Mann alleged Aam Aadmi Party workers were behind sacrilege. “The AAP, with the support of the RSS, planned these sacrilege incidents with the aim to weaken the unity of Sikhs.”
