PCMSA opposes extension to retired senior docs by govt

-

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab civil medical services association (PCMSA) on Thursday strongly opposed the state government policy of giving two-year extension to the retired senior doctors.

In a joint statement, PCMSA president, Gagandeep Singh, vice-president Manohar Singh and organising secretary Indervir Gill, stated that the move of the government is adversely effecting the promotion avenues of the junior doctors in the department.

PCMSA office-bearers revealed that almost all senior posts of deputy directors and directors are presently held by superannuated doctors having been given extension.

“Neither the retired people have the tendency to work with dedication nor are they fit to give their 100% to the responsibilities assigned to them. Why not inject fresh blood into the department by giving important posts to those who have zeal,” said the association statement.

Most senior medical officers’ posts are also occupied by superannuated officers. The extension in service is also denyig the empolyment opportunities to young doctors in the government as no fresh hiring is being done. The association has demanded that all officials who are on extension should immediately be retired and effective steps be taken to promote the deserving doctors to prevent the growing resentment in the cadre.
