JAIPUR: The Jaipur police arrested four men for allegedly kidnapping a Class 12 student on May 28.

The case was solved within 12 hours of being registered and the boy was rescued from Sawai Madhopur district where his abductors had taken him, police said.

Investigations have revealed that the main accused in the case, identified as, Bharat Prajapat, was a friend of the victim and planned the kidnapping, said additional deputy commissioner of police (east) Hanuman Prasad. A case was registered at the Pratap Nagar police station on Wednesday afternoon by the father of the boy, he said.

“The boy, who studies in Jaipur, went missing since May 28, and his family who live in Sawai Madhopur, couldn’t contact him. After starting the investigation we came to know that the victim was friends with one Bharat Prajapat (25) who also knew the family.” The boy’s family received a phone call from the kidnappers who demanded ₹ 25 lakh as ransom, Prasad said. “We constituted a number of teams and during investigation Prajapat’s role appeared suspicious. We traced the number from which the call was made to Sawai Madhopur district and sent the teams there.”

In an operation that lasted until early Thursday, four people have been arrested and the kidnapped boy has been rescued, police said. “We have arrested four people — Bharat Prajapat, Gaurav Prajapat, Rakesh Meena and Gaurishankar Sharma-—for kidnapping the boy. During investigation we came to know that the planning was done by Bharat and Gaurav Prajapat.”
