Guard rapes woman on train, booked

ACCUSED THREATENED TO THROW THE VICTIM OUT FROM THE TRAIN WHEN THE LATTER TRIED TO RESIST

JALANDHAR: A 39-year-old woman was alleged raped by a train guard in a moving train from Hoshiarpur to Jalandhar on May 30. The incident came to light on Saturday when the victim lodged a complaint against Hoshiarpur­Delhi Express train guard.

Confirming the incident, station house officer (SHO) GRP Karnail Singh said that on the complaint of victim, the guard Balvinder Singh has been booked.

As per the FIR, the incident occurred on the night of May 30. The victim told the GRP officials that at around 10:10 pm, the victim with her daughter boarded Delhi Express to travel to Jalandhar from Hoshiarpur.

“I was feeling uneasy so I stepped out of the train to have a cold drink. Suddenly the train started moving and a guard grabbed my hand and pulled me in his cabin assuring that I can go to my coach at another station,” she said.

The victim said, “He started misbehavin­g with me as the train picked up speed and raped me.”

As per the victim the accused threatened to throw her out from the train when the latter tried to resist.

The victim said that she sat at the corner of the cabin throughout the journey as she was scared. When the train reached Jalandhar railway station, the accused threw both mother and daughter out of the train and fled.

The victim said she approached the GRP police station Jalandhar on the night of incident but was not provided help.

A case against the accused has been registered on June 3 under Jalandhar police’s jurisdicti­on under Section 376 (b), (c) of the Indian Penal Code.
