LUDHIANA : Three armed robbers looted cash, jewellery and other valuables worth ₹30 lakh from a house of a grocery store owner after holding his two minor daughters captive in Jagraon on Monday.

Police have registered a case. The house is located on Malak road.

Jagraon superintendent of police (SP) Mandeep Singh said the accused parked their motorbike near the house and then scaled the boundary wall. They later smashed a windowpane to enter the house.

Police scanned the footage of the CCTVs installed in the area and said the accused have been caught on camera.

Jatinder Berry, the grocery store owner, said at the time of the incident his two daughters Mehak, 13, and Himani, 10, were only present inside the house.

“I had gone to Mullanpur Dakha for some work while my wife was at the shop,” he said.

The girls, who were in state of shock, told police that the robbers, who had their faces covered with a piece of cloth, tied their hands with a rope and ransacked house. “They said they will kill us, if we raised alarm,” said the girls.

The miscreants decamped with the valuables within 10 minutes. The girls managed to free themselves and called up their mother.

Superintendent police (SP) Mandeep Singh said the robbers could be the acquaintances of the family as they were aware that there was no adult inside the house at that time.

“We are looking into all angles and trying to ascertain the identity of robbers through the CCTV footage,” he added.
