Khattar wields broom on World Environment Day
KARNAL: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar wielded a broom and joined a cleanliness drive in Karnal on Monday to mark World Environment Day. The chief minister (CM) appealed to the people of the state to extend their support to the government by maintaining cleanliness in their localities.
He also launched a door-todoor garbage collection campaign in Karnal and flagged off 20 new auto-tippers, taking the total number of auto-tippers in Karnal municipal corporation to 50.
Talking to mediapersons, CM Khattar said the government was taking all possible steps to make Haryana a clean state and tendering process was underway for setting up of solid waste management plants in all 13 clusters of the state.
The chief minister also launched a garbage segregation drive and said that every household of Karnal MC will be provided two dustbins—coloured green and blue.
The green dustbin will be used for liquid waste and blue for solid waste to help in source segregation of garbage.
Khattar said that efforts are being made to make rural areas of the state open defection-free by June 23 and the government has also set September 25 deadline to make all urban areas ODF. The chief minister also inaugurated two open air gyms at Atal Park in Karnal.
CM LOSES HIS COOL
The impact of scorching heat could be seen on chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who got angry with a group of people from Balolpur village of the district, and accused them of insulting him. “Aap logon ne muje apmanit karne ka kaam kiya hai (You have insulted me),” the visibly angry chief minister told the people of Balolpur village. “You all started hooting when I was addressing a gathering, don’t you think that you have insulted me? If you think you did not, then I will take up your demand, else you have to come to Chandigarh.”
The villagers were later heard saying, “We voted for him and now he won’t listen us and is even asking us to come to Chandigarh.” As per the information, the villagers had come to discuss a dispute over a religious land in their village.
Earlier during his visit to the wards of Karnal municipal corporation, a group of women also alleged that the safai karamcharies of the corporation do not sweep their locality daily and had cleaned their street on Monday only because they knew that the chief minister was visiting.
