Six docs booked after patient’s kin allege negligence
GURGAON: Six doctors and the management of a leading private hospital have been booked for medical negligence on the complaint of a city resident.
In his complaint, Ashok Makkar, a resident of New Colony, stated that his wife who was admitted to the Artemis Hospital last year in June, died owing to the negligence of doctors.
The deceased, Rajni Makkar (48), had consulted Dr. Geeta Baruah Nath in Artemis Hospital last year on June 18 as she was having pain in lower abdomen and was advised to have her uterus removed by a laparoscopy procedure.
The surgery took place on June 20. The six accused doctors are Nath, Rajotia, ]Dr Paritosh S Gupta, Dr Devlina Chakravarty, CEO Artemis Hospital, Dr Manjinder Sandhu, medical director and Dr Anjali Kaul, medical superintendent.
Ashok was informed that as the laparoscopy procedure had failed, they had to conduct open surgery on his wife. Though Rajni was discharged from the hospital on June 24, she kept complaining of stomach aches.
Rajni ran high fever and kept on vomiting. She was admitted again to the hospital. On June 29, Dr Paritosh S Gupta, a surgeon at Artemis Hospital, said that during the laparoscopy procedure her small intestine was ruptured in two places, alleged Ashok.
The doctors performed another operation to fix the ruptured points on June 29 but informed later that the surgery was not successful. Rajni died on August 8, 2016.
A case has been filed in Sector 50 police station under 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC. “We have got an investigation report from PGIMS, Rohtak which says there was negligence,” said Chandgi Ram, the investigating officer at Sector 50 police station.
“Rajni Makkar was treated at Artemis Hospitals as per standard medical practices. The complications were dealt with effectively with all possible measures,” said Dr. Anil Khetarpal, spokesperson Artemis.
