COP KILLED IN MILITANT ATTACK IN J&K

SRINAGAR: Two policemen were wounded in a suspected militant attack in Hyderpora area of Budgam district Jammu & Kashmir. One of them, constable Shehzad, succumbed to his injuries.

A youth was also injured elsewhere in the district when personnel of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) opened fire after protesters pelted stones on them.

Police said militants opened fire on Thursday evening on a patrol party of policemen in Hyderpora area of Budgam which falls on the outskirts of Srinagar city.

“Two policemen were wounded in the attack,” said an official manning PCR Budgam.

He said in another incident a youth was wounded in Rangreth after SSB personnel opened fire after coming under attack by stone pelters.

Local reports said SSB personnel were withdrawin­g from the area when they came under stone-pelting.

Earlier during the day, a policeman lost his life when suspected militants opened fire on him in southern district of Kulgam.

A police spokesman said that some unknown militants fired upon constable Shabir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Bogund Kulgam, near his home.

He was shifted to hospital for treatment where doctors declared him brought dead. A massive manhunt has been launched in the district to nab the culprits.

The deceased is survived by his wife and 13 months old son, the spokesman said.
