No additional pay for police department’s non-gazetted officials
KAPURTHALA: The non-gazetted employees in the police department will not get additional salary in compensation for duties on sanctioned holidays, as per the new directive of state’s finance department. Over 25,000 employees are likely to be affected by this move, said a senior official.
“Non-gazetted employees of inspector, assistant sub-inspector, head constables and constable rank will not be entitled to get an additional compensatory salary from this financial year,” reads the notification dated June 15.
“Those working at offices other than police stations shall not be entitled to any additional pay of one month in a year,” the order adds.
The notification says: “There are many non-gazetted employees who are supposed to be working on gazetted holidays and their work cannot be distinguished from the work of officers of equivalent rank in other departments.”
The move, seen as a measure to stabilise financial conditions of the state, has put the employees in a tizzy.
“This is unfair on part of the state government. With this decision, employees will not come to offices on holidays and work will be affected,” said an inspector posted at Kapurthala district, requesting anonymity.
He added that employees will soon call on deputy general of police (DGP) Suresh Arora to raise concern regarding decision of the state finance department.
