Highway robbers’ gang busted
BATALA: The local police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of two of its members, while five are still absconding.
They have recovered two stolen and one Balero SUV from their possession.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Upinderjeet Singh Ghuman said, “After noticing rise in incidents of robberies on the Amritsar-Pathankot highway, a special investigating team was constituted under superintendent of police (SP investigation) Suba Singh.”
“During probe, we took into custody two persons — Sawinder Singh alias Vicky of Dharamkot Bagga village and Kuldeep Singh of Balleywal village. They confessed to being involved in many incidents of theft, robberies and murder in Batala and surround- ing areas. They told the police about the involvement of five others — Sabbi, Shinda, Ajay Kumar, Balbir Singh and Jassu — all of Ludhiana, in their gang,” he added.
A case was registered under Sections 460 (all persons jointly concerned in lurking house trespass or house-breaking by night punishable where death or grievous hurt caused by one of them), 379-B (punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sadar police station.
