JIND: Lashing out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Union minister Birender Singh’s stronghold in Jind district, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda on Saturday accused the government of making false promises to public to win elections.

Addressing a ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ here, the father-son duo said they will fulfil BJP’s election promises if they are voted back to power in 2019 only because they did not want the public to feel betrayed.

“When the Congress came to power in 2004, we waived off electricity bills of farmers amounting to Rs 1,600 crore even when it was the poll promise of the outgoing INLD. We will again fulfil poll promises made by the BJP, because we don’t want the public riding on hope to be left heartbroken,” Deepender said.

He said the BJP did not fulfil its promise of providing jobs to youths and giving Rs 9,000 unemployment allowance to the jobless.

He said the NDA government also forgot its promise of implementing the Swaminathan Commission’s report and instead reduced the minimum support price (MSP) of crops “that were increasing by 15% every year under the Congress’ regime.”

The former chief minister after taking a dramatic entry with his pre-recorded speech playing on loudspeakers, said he was forced to come out in public and raise their issues after he saw government failing terribly.

“I had initially decided I will not speak against them since they were a new government. But when I saw farmers getting homeless and being mercilessly shot dead, I could not stay quiet anymore,” Hooda said.

“The condition of farmers across the country has become miserable under the BJP government. I have decided that neither will I sleep, nor will let this government sleep until it addresses the issues of farmers,” he said.

The ex-CM said the only benefit of the BJP coming into power was that it would give people a chance to weigh which party was better.
