Moga: 4 rice sheller partners booked for ₹3.3-cr paddy fraud

MOGA: The district police, on Wednesday, booked four partners of a rice sheller, situated at Ajitwal, for alleged embezzlement of paddy worth ₹3.25 crore on the complaint of the local Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (PUNSUP) authorities.

As many as 54,753 bags of paddy were found embezzled.

The accused have been identified as Harish Kumar of Jagraon, Sadhu Singh of Chuharhchak, Mukand Singh of Kaleke and Gurbhej Kumar of Jagraon, partners of a rice sheller, Grain Tech Food Industry.

District manager, PUNSUP, in his first information report (FIR), stated that in 2012-2013, their sheller, as per records, stored 1,70,537 bags (each bag containing around 35kg paddy) for milling.

But, during auditing of the bags, it was found that they had embezzled 54,753 bags which contained paddy worth ₹3.25 crore.

Thus, they caused a loss of ₹3.25 crore to the corporation, the manager said.

A case has been registered under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Ajitwal police station.

Police officials said the accused persons are absconding and would be arrested soon.
