TARN TARAN: A local court has issued a notice to senior Akali leader Virsa Singh Valtoha, asking him to appear before it on Tuesday for allegedly threatening and abusing former Tarn Taran deputy commissioner.
Legal proceedings have been started against Valtoha, a former Khemkaran MLA, on the complaint of Congress leader Tejpreet Singh Peter Sandhu. The complaint was made to the then SSP Harjit Singh against Valtoha on the basis of a video that went viral on social media.
The video, recorded on June 12, shows Valtoha allegedly threatening Tarn Taran DC DPS Kharbanda and station house officers with dire consequences for “harassing” his party workers who were sitting on a dharna.
The Sadar police station filed a DDR report under Section 189 (threat of injury to public servant) in the district court initiating legal action against the SAD leader.
Valtoha has been told to appear before the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM), Tarn Taran, Rana Kanwardeep Kaur. Kharbanda has remained mum on the issue.
VALTOHA CRIES VENDETTA
The SAD leader said the proceedings initiated against him are not as per law. He said the action can only be taken on complaint of the then DC Kharbanda and the latter’s statement was also mandatory in the case.
“We didn’t indulge in vendetta politics when we were in power. Now, we will spare no one after coming back to power,” he said.
