ExAkali sarpanch who had attacked head constable arrested

BATALA : The Batala police have arrested the former Akali sarpanch of Nathwal village Vikramjit Singh , who, along with one dozen others, reportedly assaulted a head constable of counter-intelligen­ce wing after the constable gave a tip-off to the police, which led to the arrest of the former sarpanch’s friend.

The police recovered one revolver from his possession.

Station house offcier (SHO), Ranger Nangal police station, Mukhtiar Singh said that on September 5 last year, constable Harpal Singh lodged a complaint with the police that he, along with his friend, Kuldeep Singh , was going towards Gurdaspur on his motorcycle when they were allegedly attacked by iron rods on the outskirts of his Nathwal village by the sarpanch and his companions.

He said that a few months ago before the incident, on his tip-off, the CIA police

of Batala had arrested Vikramjit’s friend, Amana from his residence at Mula Suniya following which a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from him and since that time, Vikramjit was threatenin­g him of dire consequenc­es.

The police had registered a case under sections 308, 353, 186, 148, 49 IPC, 25/27/54/59 of the Arms Act against Vikramjit Singh and one dozen companions but all of them had been absconding.

On Monday morning, after a specific tip-off, a police team laid a naka outside Nangal village and arrested Vikramjit Singh.
