The secret to a marvellous monsoon

- Aastha Behl letterschd@hindustantimes.com The writer is a student at Ludhiana

The rain may have cast its spell on a host of distinguished luminaries with its beauty and spurred them on to use hyperbole to define its charm, but you dear reader, may find it a trifle surprising and odd to know that I am not a hero-worshipper of the rain, and I have my own reasons for it.

The silly rain, which many regard as an occasion for celebration, is annoying as it brings with it such a hot and humid weather during the summer in India. And along come dozens of deadly diseases that I certainly don’t find rejuvenating. So how can you expect the rain to hold me spellbound?

It is so irritating when I am travelling. This mighty rain turns into my biggest enemy as it drenches my clothes and makes them all dirty. You may find it silly but wearing a raincoat is an awful thing to do. It is so uncomfortable and makes one sweat. Besides I look disgusting in it.

I must also not forget to mention the power cuts brought about by a mighty downpour accompanied by strong gusts of wind that play havoc with electricity wires. The manna from the skies also does a lot of damage to the roads. Heavy rain haunts people when the water level rises above the danger mark and we live in constant fear of impending floods.

Though I find many flaws in the rain that many call a gift from the gods, when I let go of my biases and think deeply, I find it glossy too.

I have to admit that there is something magical about the raindrops that bring an impulsive smile to everyone’s faces instead of leaving them with a stain of sadness.

I also have to admit that this rain is not a curse but a boon for our lives.

It does such a wonderful work of quenching the thirst of each and every creature on this planet without a trace of bias, without a whiff of prejudice.

Without this rain, the life of a farmer would be a nightmare and so would ours be.

Dear reader, don’t get confused. What I want to say is that nothing in this world is flawless. So why don’t we find beauty in each and everything instead of being so negative and always hunting for flaws?

One should remember that Nature has created nothing as waste. There is a stock of goodness attached to each and everything, all that is needed is a little bit of exploring to bring it to the surface. Surround yourself with positive vibes and try to find happiness in whatever you do.

Just trust me. It will work wonders. Have a marvellous monsoon.
