Two hurt, 3 vehicles damaged as gas cylinder catches fire
KAPURTHALA: Two persons were injured and three two-wheeler reduced to ashes after a leaking gas cylinder caught fire at a dhaba near the bus stand here on Wednesday. A dhaba worker, Manu Kumar, sustained 30% injuries and has been admitted at the local civil hospital.
His condition is said to be out of danger. Owner of the dhaba, Jatin Sharma also sustained minor burn injuries, said civil surgeon HS Kahlon.
Ravi Sharma, brother of Jatin, said they had bought an unsealed LPG gas refill from a local gas agency and when they were replacing it, the cylinder accidentally caught fire and damaged the shop and some nearby shops. Two motorcycles and an Activa scooter parked outside the shop reduced to ashes. Fire tenders doused the flames and brought the fire under control. However, the dhaba owner claimed that the fire tenders reached half an hour late due to which the dhaba was gutted, also damaging some neighbouring shops. DC Mohammad Tayyab inquired about the incident and assured the shopkeepers to inquire about the delay on fire tenders’ part.
He directed deputy chief engineer Kanwar Jaswant Singh to restore electricity of the area as the wires were also damaged in the fire. Police have impounded the gas refill.
