ROHTAK: Ten persons were booked on Tuesday after a video showing them helping some men strangle a horse to death in Jind surfaced on social media. The video shows the horse tied in ropes and sticks, while men around the horse are pulling and pushing it from all directions.

In the video, two cops were also seen helping the men. However, they have not been booked. They’ve only been transferred.

The two, identified as ASI Rajendra and SPO Subhash, have been transferred to the police lines and an inquiry against them has been initiated.

The incident occurred on Tuesday near Gohana Road and is being widely circulated on social media.

The police said they had received a call that an uncontrollable horse was inflicting injuries on people, so they rushed a team to the spot. “The police only helped in controlling the horse, as it was getting violent,” said inspector Dinesh Kumar, incharge of the Civil Lines police station.

On being asked if there was no other way to control the horse than strangle it with ropes and sticks, he said, “Aap aa jate aur control kar lete..(you should have come and controlled it).”

He, however, said the body of the horse was sent for post-mortem and the autopsy report was awaited. “We will take action if autopsy finds cruelty as reason for the death,” he said.
