BHOPAL: A joint operation by the Madhya Pradesh anti-terrorist squad (ATS) and Punjab police busted an alleged terror module and arrested three men said to be associated with the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) from the Dabra region of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.

Sources said that the module had direct links with Pakistan’s ISI-backed banned terror outfit International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) and they are also suspected to be involved in arms smuggling.

Those arrested have been identified as Balvinder Gill, 22, Balkar Singh, 45, and Satyendra Singh alias Chotu Rawat, 26. The three men were picked up from their hideouts in Dabra, Chinor and Dulpura area of Gwalior. The Punjab police have taken all the three arrested with them as all three have cases under the Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act registered against them.

On Thursday, they were presented by the Punjab State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in a court in Ajnala in Amritsar district that sent them in six days’ remand of the police.

Punjab police and the ATS had been camping in Gwalior for the last two days following specific intelligence inputs about their location and succeeded in nabbing them on Wednesday night.

Sources in Bhopal said that Punjab police had recently arrested Gurdial Singh, Jagroop Singh and Satwinder Singh and they provided information about these terror suspects. Two aides of the trio, Mann Singh and Sher Singh, were arrested by the Ramdas police in Amritsar on May 21.

Investigations had started in May after the BSF had intercepted a consignment of arms and ammunition from near the international border in Amritsar and it was found to be supplied by the ISYF. Maan Singh and Sher Singh were arrested trying to pick up the weapons. The entire module was under surveillance since then, sources said. Mann and Sher too had disclosed the trio’s names and locations, police in Punjab said, adding that they had been operating from Gwalior for the “past few years”.

Officials in MP said that during interrogation, the trio arrested in Gwalior said that they were trained for carrying out terror attacks by Lahorebased ISYF chief Lakhbir Rode, and KLF operative Harmeet Singh. They were trained in using AK-47s and other weapons and had visited Lahore in 2016.
