HISAR: Tension gripped Samain village of Fatehabad district on Monday when members of the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) clashed with a rival group at a rally, leaving Jat leader Yashpal Malik and 10 others injured. Two station house officers (SHOs) also received minor injuries in the melee and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Soon after Yashpal Malik left the village, his supporters blocked the Hisar-Chandigarh road at Kanheri village, demanding the arrest of Sube Singh Samain and others who they alleged attacked Malik and his supporters.

Police said a probe has been started. Talking to HT over phone, AIJASS national president Yashpal Malik said he was safe but received some minor injuries on his head and chest as some unidentified persons pelted his vehicle with stones, damaging the front windshield.

“At 1pm, Sube Singh Samain and 50-60 unidentified persons suddenly barged into the rally venue and attacked our supporters with sticks and stones. Samain is close to some powerful BJP leaders and Hawa Singh Sangwan’s group. They attacked us at the behest of BJP leaders. Even police did not take action on time,” Yashpal Malik said.

Meanwhile, Sube Singh Samain told mediapersons that all the allegations levelled against him are baseless and he will join police investigation. “We did not attack anyone. Yashpal Malik is an agent of the government and the entire episode was a conspiracy,” he said.

AIJASS state spokesperson Ram Bhagat Malik said, “We will file a police complaint.”

Tohana sadar SHO Pradeep Sheoran said, “Heavy police deployment has been made in the village. We are conducting an investigation.”
