One gangster held, two still absconding

TARN TARAN : Three days after an encounter in a Tarn Taran, that led to arrest of gangster Gagandeep Singh, police have arrested an absconding gangster Gurbhej Singh alias Bheja on Monday. Police remained tight -lipped about how they nabbed him.

Police have been on toes to catch the three others, who had managed to escape after exchange of fire between the police and the gangsters at Dhun Dhai Wala village in Khadoor Sahib sub-division on Thursday night. Despite deployment of more than 100 cops, including senior officers, equipped with latest firearms, the trio had managed to escape after an hour-long encounter.

The three absconders were Gurbhej Singh alias Bheja of Dhun Dhai Wala village, Janga Singh of Rahal Chahal, and Kawaljit Singh of Muktsar district. Chohla Sahib police claimed to have arrested Bheja after receiving a tip-off. They have registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other charges under the Arms Act.”

DETAILS OF INCIDENT

The gangsters had fired aerial shots at a fair. Residents had then alerted the cops who reached the spot and the encounter ensued. A naka, led by SHO Sukhraj Singh, was set up near Dhun Dhai Wala village. During routine check, police indicated to stop a Toyota Etios car, but instead of stopping, the car driver sped away and fired shots at the police team.” Villagers said, “The gangsters were at a fair of Baba Jehar Wali, carrying firearms, but no one called the cops out of fear. The SHO was the chief guest and the gangsters fired aerial shots before he reached.”
