PDP worker shot dead in Anantnag

SRINAGAR: A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) worker was shot dead on Saturday by unknown gunmen in Kashmir’s southern district of Anantnag.

Police said 40-year-old Mohammad Ishaq Parray was shot upon by two motorcycle borne youth at Dialgam near his band-saw mill.

Station house officer Anantnag, Mohammad Yousuf said Parray was on way to his band- saw mill from his home when unknown militants fired upon him.

“He was severely injured and died on the way to hospital,” Yousuf said. The officer said the deceased was an active member of ruling PDP.

Following the incident, security forces launched a manhunt to trace the attackers.

Earlier, security forces had launched a massive cordon and search operation in many villages of the neighbouri­ng district of Shopian.

“A joint search operation was launched by special operations group(SOG) of police, army and CRPF in 8-10 villages of Shopian early in the morning looking for the militants,” police said.

Police control room, Shopian informed that the operation ended peacefully just after the noon.

“The security forces conducted door to door searches of houses besides looking in orchards,” an official manning PCR Shopian said.

The official did not divulge any more details whether anyone was arrested or not.
