Two Punjab gangsters nabbed in Chandigarh; pistol, heroin seized

CHANDIGARH : The Chandigarh police on Monday arrested two Punjab-based Jaipal gang members who were allegedly planning to kill a man over an old rivalry.

“We have arrested Saraj alias Bau (30) and his nephew Arjun alias Ajju (22) of Khalchiyan village in Ferozepur district on a tip-off,” said superintendent of police (operations) Ravi Kumar.

The two were nabbed when the police stopped a Maruti Swift car bearing Punjab registration number for checking at a naka in Sector 45 of the city.

The police claimed to have seized a pistol with which they said the two were intending to eliminate Punjab gangster Vicky Ferozepuriya.

“We recovered 300 gram heroin from Arjun and a .315 bore country-made pistol and a cartridge from Saraj,” Kumar said.

Police have registered a case under Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Sector 34 police station against the two.

The police said Saraj is involved in eight cases of murder, attempt to murder, besides arms and drugs cases.

He has been convicted in a murder case and was on bail and is facing trial in other cases, they said. Arjun is named as an accused in five criminal cases including murder, attempt to murder, arms and drugs.
