Museum of folk arts to come up in Amritsar
CHANDIGARH: Punjab tourism and cultural affairs minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday announced that a museum of folk arts will be established in Amritsar.
The department would also open an art gallery showcasing Punjabi culture, dressing styles and Punjabi way of life and a food street along with the museum. Sidhu announced this during a meeting with eminent personalities and intellectuals from Punjab’s literary, cultural and film spheres.
He said the art gallery will have traditional Punjabi articles as souvenirs that can be purchased by tourists. Similarly, a food street would offer Punjabi cuisine.
Sidhu said the cultural policy draft has been finalised and sent to the experts for a purview. Acting on a suggestion, Sidhu announced that the coming few days all signboard in cities and towns falling under the local government department will be in Punjabi language.
The minister also disclosed that financial assistance would be provided by the government to the institutions devoted to the propagation of Punjabi literature, culture and music and provisions would be made for permanent grant to these institutions. He said, a tour programme would also be planned for maintenance of the places connected with the eminent writers and artists of Punjab.
