Harika bounces back after draws

ABUDHABI:After three consecutiv­e draws, Indian GM Harika Dronavalli bounced back with a win over CM Suleymanli Aydin of Azerbaijan in the seventh round of the Master’s tournament of the Abu Dhabi Internatio­nal Chess Festival here. After seven rounds in the nine-round Swiss tournament, Harika has amassed a total of four and a half points, courtesy three wins, three draws and one loss.

DELHI FOOTBALL PITCH CLOSED FOR U-17 WC

NEW DELHI: In preparatio­n for the upcoming FIFA Under-17 World Cup, the main football pitch and warm-up area within the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JNS) has been closed down.

One of the six venues for the event, JNS will host preliminar­y round matches of Group H that include hosts India, Ghana, Colombia and United States of America. India will be allowed to practice at the warm-up ground. The Local Organising Committee (LOC) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) will take a call on that, said a SAI official.

ADVANI-LED CHENNAI STRIKERS LOSE

AHMEDABAD: Bengaluru Buddies came from behind to beat Chennai Strikers in the Indian Cue Masters League on Monday. The Strikers were sitting pretty at 2-1, after Bangalore-based Vidya Pillai notched up two points for her team, pairing up first with Pankaj Advani to win the mixed doubles snooker match and then with Panduranga­iah from Nellore to win the mixed double pool match. But in icon match, Darren Morgan (Wales) stunned Advani to make it 2-all. In the decider, the snooker singles shootout, Laxman Rawat cruised to a 42-0 victory against Dharmender Lilly (Punjab) to clinch the tie.
