JAIPUR: BJP MLA from Mandalgarh in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district, Kirti Kumari, on Monday died of swine flu at a private hospital in Jaipur.

The 50-year-old was shifted to Fortis Hospital on Sunday from the state-run SMS Hospital after she complained of breathlessness following complications due to swine flu, medical superintendent of Fortis Hospital, Dr Shrikant Swami, said. A team of 12 doctors was formed to look after her and she was put on ventilator. She breathed her last at 7am, he added. “She had been unwell for the past five-six days during her stay in Bijolia, and we had advised her to get proper treatment. She was admitted to Kota hospital on August 26 and shifted to SMS hospital when her condition deteriorated,” Kumari’s brother Bhojraj told HT. Kumari hailed from the erstwhile royal family of Bijolia. She held various positions in committees of Rajasthan Assembly and within the organisation. CM Vasundhara Raje condoled her death, saying it was an irreparable loss for BJP. “I express grief at the untimely death of Kirti Kumari ji. Her demise is a huge loss for me and for the BJP family,” she tweeted.

Meanwhile, some Rajput community leaders alleged negligence in her treatment claiming the government didn’t show promptness in ensuring treatment at best facility in Jaipur.

Rajput Sabha Bhavan president Giriraj Singh Lotwara said, “The death happened due to negligence of the health department.

She was not given proper treatment at the SMS hospital and the shift to Fortis was delayed. No senior politician or minister from the government visited her when she was admitted to SMS hospital,” he alleged.
