Patwari caught accepting ₹16,000 as bribe in Patti

TARN TARAN : A team of vigilance department in Tarn Taran district caught a Patwari redhanded from Patti tehsil while accepting a bribe of ₹16,000 from a farmer for the mutation of ancestral on Thursday.

DSP vigilance, Kawaldeep Kaur said that Sukhbir Singh of Patti was posted as a patwari in Mastgarh area besides holding an additional charge of Bhura Karimpura.

“Farmer Bilaur Singh of Bhura Kareempura had given an applicatio­n to Patti tehsildar for the mutation of his ancestral land after his parents’ death,” the DSP said.

“The applicatio­n was marked by the revenue officer to Sukhbir Singh, who demanded ₹40,000 to allot the land on the farmer’s name,” she added.

“Bilaur Singh gave ₹4,000 to the patwari on spot and promised to give remaining amount in two instalment­s soon,” she added.

“Bilaur Singh then sent a written complaint to us and on Thursday, when he was giving ₹16,000 to Sukhbir Singh, we caught him red-handed,” she said. A case under Sections 7, 13(2) and 88 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused.

ASI HELD WHILE TAKING BRIBE IN KAPURTHALA

Jalandhar vigilance bureau team arrested assistant subinspect­or (ASI) Kabal Singh, incharge of Nadala police post, for accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a local resident.

Senior superinten­dent of vigilance Daljinder Singh Dhillon said that a vigilance team conducted a raid at Nadala police post and nabbed the accused ASI red-handed while taking a bribe to settle an accident case.

Dhillon said that Gurdev Singh of Kapurthala had submitted a complaint before the vigilance team on Monday stating that ASI Kabal Singh sought a bribe of ₹20,000 to settle the case.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the accused.
