ROHTAK: A 26-year-old woman from West Bengal was gangraped and sold for prostitution in Haryana, police said on Friday. The woman was found dead in a canal in Rohtak’s Kharawar village on September 10, with two bullet injuries in her head.

The police said the woman had come to Delhi from Murshidabad of West Bengal in search of work. She was living with her friend in Delhi when Sunil of Sonepat, on September 7, brought the two women to Gohana city of the district, by promising jobs.

However, he sold the two women to Gohana’s Arya Nagar residents Jaiveer, Maya and Veermati for prostitution.

The police said, the two women were gangraped by four Rohtak-based men, who then bought the deceased woman for ₹5,000. The victim’s friend managed to run away from the house and contacted the police.

She revealed the entire incident to the police, based on which they carried out raids and arrested Jaiveer, Maya and Veermati from Gohana. The three were produced in local court on Friday, which sent them to judicial custody.

Police inspector Rajbeer Singh said the four men, who gangraped the two women and took the victim along, have been identified and efforts are being made to arrest them.

“Only after their arrest we will be able to tell why the victim was killed,” Singh said and added the police are also searching for Sunil, who supplied the victims for prostitution to Jaiveer and gang in Gohana.

The police said the victim was married and had one kid. Her relatives reached Rohtak on Thursday to collect her body after postmortem.
