22 booked for theft at widow’s house in Tarn Taran

TARNTARAN: Sara-E-Amanat Khan police of Tarn Taran district on Friday have booked 22 persons, including 15 unidentifi­ed, for committing theft at a widow’s house and wreaking havoc at Cheema Kalan village, 30km from the district headquarte­rs.

The incident took place on September 9 while the police registered the case on Thursday.

Assistant sub- inspector (ASI), Satnam Singh said the victim lodged her complaint on September 14 only as the case was being mediated for settlement by some villagers.

In her complaint, 60-year-old Sukhraj Kaur, who lives with her two daughters, said, “Local cowshed president Assu Mogia, along with his over 20 aides, entered my house after demolishin­g the outer wall on Saturday night.”

“The accused, with an intention to grab my residentia­l land, started abusing us and even pelted stones at our house. My family had a narrow escape after we locked ourselves in a room,” she said, adding that the accused even took away 2,000 bricks, two quintal of iron and a submersibl­e motor from her courtyard before leaving.

A case under the Sections 452 (trespass), 379 (theft), 447 (punishment for criminal trespass), 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences), 506 (criminal intimidati­on), 148 (rioting) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC has been registered against the accused, who are at large.
