GURGAON:The wife of 42-year-old Ashok Kumar, the prime suspect in the murder of a Ryan International student, met him on Thursday in Bhondsi jail first time since his arrest seven days ago.

After the meeting, she claimed that Kumar was innocent and the police forced him to confess the murder.

Gurgaon police had arrested Kumar on September 8, hours after an 8-year-old student of class 2 was found lying in a pool of blood at a toilet at Ryan International School, Bhondsi.

Kumar’s wife Mamta claimed on Thursday night that the Gurgaon police had threatened her husband to make a confession.

She claimed Kumar had told her that the child was already dead when he picked him up. Mamta, 24, claimed that her husband was innocent and had been framed by the school management.

“I went to meet my husband along with Anuradha from my village Ghamroj. He cried the moment he saw me and said he had not committed any crime. He was not even aware that the police is framing him for murder. He was asked to confess or face dire consequences. The police tortured him and also gave him two injections. He is not aware what that was for,” Mamta said.

“My husband said that he was not carrying a knife. He was not even aware that the boy was murdered with a knife,” Mamta added.

Mamta alleged that the police were trying to protect the culprits. She demanded a CBI probe.

Mohit Verma, 26, a lawyer from Rohtak, will appear as Kumar’s defence counsel on Monday. “I went to meet my client and he has explained the sequence of the 10-minute journey from school entrance to the toilet and back. He was scared and said he is not safe in jail,” Verma said.

Officials, however, denied the allegations. They said the probe was fair and the accused was already under arrest.

“We are investigating and interrogating all who were present on the spot at the time of the crime,” a police official said.

Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar has reiterated that the police investigation is moving in the right direction and a chargesheet will be filed soon.
