The protest was led by Thackeray scion and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray and the party’s MPs joined in to attack the government for “making false promises” in the run-up to the 2014 general elections.

“We are protesting because rising prices is an injustice to the people,” said Aaditya, who took part in the protest at Bandra East. “All the promises made in the past were false.”

The protests, which took place across the city, assume significance as they come just a few days after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said his party is contemplating withdrawing support to the state government.
