AMRITSAR: After failing to trace Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) assistant professor Sukhpreet Kaur, 32, who was kidnapped on September 11 from Amritsar, police are now using drones to locate her.

The police investigation had hit a roadblock when Kharar resident Jazzinder Singh Virk, alias Garry, 30, who had allegedly kidnapped Sukhpreet, committed suicide in a guesthouse at Amboli village in Maharashtra on Wednesday.

“We are still clueless about the whereabouts of the victim. Police teams couldn’t find Sukhpreet despite searches on routes taken by the accused till Maharashtra,” said additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Lakhbir Singh.

“We are now using drones to trace the victim in Haryana since accused travelled to Pinjore. We are hoping to find the woman alive, but the possibility of her being murdered cannot be ruled out. The drones will go down hills in the areas bordering Himachal to find if the body has been dumped there,” the ADCP said.

ACCUSED WROTE THAT HE’S INNOCENT

Police found a suicide note of the accused from his room mentioning the phone numbers of his parents.

The accused also appealed to the police to inform them about his suicide and wrote on a wall of the guestroom at Amboli in Maharashtra that he was innocent, said police.

Amritsar police have requested their Maharashtra counterparts to handover the car of the accused to them for forensic examination.

“There is a possibility that the body of the victim, if murdered, might have been dumped inside the boot of the car. We may get some leads after examining the car, which will reach here city within four days,” the ADCP said.

Sukhpreet was last seen at Dhilwan in Kapurthala district, but was not in Garry’s car in the CCTV footages from toll plazas of Jaipur and Vadodara.
