Nagal wins gold, India 11th at Asian Indoors

ASHGABAT: Indians grabbed four medals, including a gold through tennis player Sumit Nagal, on the concluding day to end at 11th place in the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. Nagal beat Vijay Sundar Prashanth 6-1, 6-1 in the all-Indian final. In chess, India collected two bronze — in men’s blitz team and men’s blitz team U-23. With 9 gold, 12 silver and 19 bronze, India finished the Games at 11th. Hosts Turkmenist­an topped with 89 gold, 70 silver and 86 bronze, followed by China (42 gold, 32 silver and 23 bronze).

SANTHOSH’S RECORD

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu’s Santhosh Kumar stole the show on the third day of the 57th National Open Athletics Championsh­ip by winning the men’s 400 metres hurdles. Kumar’s 50.16 seconds effort eclipsed the previous meet record of 50.26s by Joseph Abraham in 2009. Services’ Ramachandr­an was second and Aftab Alam of Uttar Pradesh was third.

UP YODDHA BEAT DELHI

NEW DELHI: UP Yoddha thrashed Dabang Delhi 45-16 in the Inter Zone Challenge Week match of Pro Kabaddi. It was Delhi’s seventh straight loss. Nitin Tomar scored 15 raid points for UP and Sagar Krishna got a high five in the defence. UP Yoddha are third in Zone B with 48 points after 17 matches while Delhi remain at the bottom in Zone A with 31 points from 17 matches. In the other match, Telugu Titans beatJaipur Pink Panthers 41-34.

GUJRATHI IN LEAD

DOUGLAS (ISLE OF MAN): Viswanatha­n Anand drew against Latvian GM Shirov Alexei but Vidit Gujrathi notched up a win over beat Benjamin Bok of the Netherland­s in 40 moves to jump to joint-lead with six others after the fourth round of the Isle of Man Internatio­nal.

DIPIKA UPSETS 4TH SEED

CHENNAI: Dipika Pallikal Karthik upset fourth-seeded Emily Whitlock of England 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8 to advance to the last eight of $50,000 San Francisco Open squash meet. This was Pallikal’s fourth win over Whitlock.

NEW DELHI: India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan among other nations during the South Asian Boxing Championsh­ip that will take place in Guwahati from December 6-10, the Boxing Federation of India said.
