65-year-old woman killed in Tarn Taran

TARN TARAN : A 65-year-old woman was killed by unidentifi­ed people in Cheema village, 30km from district headquarte­r, on Thursday, police said.

Deceased, Jasbir Kaur, was living with her grandson, Nishan Singh, after her two sons died.

Police sources said Kaur had been smuggling medicinal drugs and was previously warned. However, owing to her poor economic condition, villagers often saved her.

Her neighbours said they saw Kaur and her grandson at their house on Wednesday.

Her body was found the next day when people noticed foul smell coming out of the house. When they entered the house, Kaur’s body was lying and she had sustained head injuries.

Station house officer (SHO) Sukhwinder Singh said the case is “complicate­d” and the body has been sent for autopsy.

A case under sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against unidentifi­ed people.

80-YR-OLD STABBED TO DEATH, KIN INJURED

LUDHIANA : Meanwhile, in another case, 80-year-old Gurdev Singh, was stabbed to death by unidentifi­ed people in Seh village of Samrala on Thursday morning.

Another family members was also injured by the assailants.

Police have initiated a probe into the matter and a case has been registered against unidentifi­ed people.

Gurdev’s relative Khushwinde­r Kaur lodged a police complaint and said at around 4am on Thursday, some unidentifi­ed people barged into their house and attacked Gurdev and her husband with sharp-edged weapons.

Both of them were injured and rushed to the hospital, where Gurdev succumbed to the injuries, she said, adding that her husband is critical.
