A constable deputed with the police control room (PCR) team of Amritsar traffic police, was found drinking in public, near a liquor-vend located near a petrol pump, opposite Namita hospital, Khandwala, here, on Monday.

Almost all the food joints especially dhabas and the liquorvends in the city remain functional, even after 11pm. The incident came to light just two days after over 10 persons, opened fire, injuring two managers at Pritam Dhaba opposite railway station on Friday night.

The on duty cop drove back into his official Innova car after having alcohol. The video of the same is in HT’ s possession.

Meanwhile, the Amritsar police has also failed in implementing the orders as the dhabas and the liquor-vends flout the norms in routine inviting frequent brawls and firing incidents.

A senior police requesting anonymity said, “People use their influential contacts. Around a month back, our team went to another dhaba located near Pritam Dhaba. The cops were abused as they asked the staff to close the eating joint. A minor scuffle also took place.”

Meanwhile, police commissioner SS Srivastava, said, “As per the guidelines, owners should close shops by 11pm. Action will be taken against the cop after an inquiry.”

ACCUSED ABSCONDING, TWO MORE IDENTIFIED

Meanwhile, the police is yet to arrest the accused who allegedly opened fire at the dhaba staff on Friday. However police have identified two more accused, Gagandeep Singh and Rajdeep Singh of Bhikhiwind village in Tarn Taran, Punjab.
