MP Partap Bajwa finally joins Congress campaign

GURDASPUR: Congress Rajya Sabha member Partap Singh Bajwa,who was dismayed over refusal of ticket to his wife Charanjit Kaur Bajwa, finally joined the Congress election campaign on Monday in favour of party candidate Sunil Jakhar for Gurdaspur bypolls, due on October 11. Addressing a workers meet at Qadian, Bajwa called upon the people to vote for Congress. Bajwa said,“Sunil Jakhar is like my brother and is an ideal candidate to handle the issues of the people here.”

Earlier, Bajwa said that he was promised a ticket for his wife in a meeting attended by Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and state party affairs in-charge Asha Kumari at Captain’s residence in Patiala.

Bajwa said that as per promise,his wife, Congress MLA from Qadian, Charanjit Kaur Bajwa had given up the claim for the ticket from Qadian assembly constituen­cy for the last Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections but the ticket was given to his younger brother Fateh Jang Singh Bajwa, who now represents Qadian in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

Bajwa had claimed that he was cheated by Captain Amarinder Singh. After the announceme­nt of Sunil Jakhar as the nominee,Bajwa had met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi urging them to reconsider their decision, terming Sunil Jakhar an outsider.

‘GOVT TO GENERATE 5 LAKH JOBS EVERY YEAR’

BATALA: Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal on Monday announced that the Captain Amarinder Singh’ s government was committed to generate five lakh jobs per year to fulfil the promise of providing 25 lakh jobs in five years. Addressing political conference­s in Fatehgarh Churian segment, Badal said, “Unlike former CM, the Congress has started implementi­ng most of the promises.” Punjab rural developmen­t and panchayat minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that no one will face discrimina­tion in the matter of getting relief from subsidised Atta-Dal scheme, old age pensions and MNREGA.

Leaving no stone unturned for ensuring the victory of Sunil Jakhar, the young brigade of Congress MLAs, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Sukhpal Singh Bullar, Lakhbir Singh Lakha and Gupreet Singh visited the rural areas of the constituen­cy, on Monday.
