Five days on, cops remain clueless about killers

KARNAL: Five days after 22-yearold folk singer Harshita Dahiya was shot dead in Chamrara village of Panipat, the district police are still clueless about the whereabouts of the four people involved in the firing.
Harshita’s jailed brother-inlaw Dinesha Karala, who was brought on production warrant from Jhajjar jail and sent to four days police remand, had admitted to the police during interrogation that he had hired four people—Kuldeep Singh alias Fazza of Naya Bans Delhi, Jitender Gogi of Alipur Delhi, Irfan Khan of Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh and Rohit Kumari of Moi village in Sonepat— to kill the singer.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Panipat DSP Desh Raj, who is leading the investigation in the case, said that all four accused are notorious gangsters and wanted in several criminal cases.
The DSP said that the district police have formed four teams to trace them and searches are being conducted at several locations in Haryana, Delhi and UP but so far, there are no clues about them.
The DSP also ruled out the involvement of others in the case.
Meanwhile, the Panipat police produced Dinesh Karala in a local court on Sunday. His remand, however, was not extended and he was sent back to Jhajjar jail.
The police started investigating Dinesh’s role in the murder after a statement by Harshita’s elder sister.
She told the police, “Harshita was killed by my husband because she was a witness in our mother’s murder case. Lata also told the police that Dinesh had raped Harshita in 2014 and a case was registered against him at Kanjhavala police station in Delhi on a complaint by her mother Premo Devi.
She alleged that Dinesh was also involved in the murder of her mother, who was shot dead in December, 2014, at her house in Narela Delhi and a case was registered against him.
