KARNAL: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has ruled out the possibility of reducing value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel in the state.

“There is no need to cut VAT on petrol and diesel in Haryana as the tax levied here is already lower than several other states,” the chief minister said while interacting with mediapersons in Karnal. “If needed, the government will consider to slash the prices further,” he added.

Khattar, while replying to a question about performance of the government, claimed that approximately 65% of announcements made by him in the past three years have already been completed and work on rest will be finished soon.

On suspension of Karnal market committee officials over allegations of corruption, the chief minister said, “The government has adopted zero tolerance policy on corruption. Action will be taken against the secretary of the market committee and inspector of the food and supplies department.”

The chief minister further claimed that the agriculture and farmers’ welfare department is spreading awareness among farmers about the damage caused by burning of crop residue. “The government is taking the issue of stubble burning seriously. It is giving modern agricultural equipment at subsidised rates for management of crop residue,” said Khattar.Talking about the shortage of doctors in government hospitals in the state, the chief minister, said, “Steps are being taken to deal with the problem. 550 doctors were recruited recently. 15 doctors will be deployed soon at Kalpana Chawla Medical College.”
