Naidu lauds state’s share in food production
Congratulates Haryanvis for achievements in all fields, especially IT and sports
HISAR: Describing Haryana as the ‘sacred land of the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita’, vicepresident M Venkaiah Naidu lauded the rapid strides the state has made in fields such as agriculture, sports and information technology.
“It is no mean achievement for a state having mere 1.5% of the country’s population to produce 15% of total foodgrain in the country,” Naidu said, while speaking at the closing ceremony of the year-long Haryana Swarna Jayanti celebrations at the Mahabir Stadium in Hisar.
Hailing Haryana’s achievement in making all rural and urban areas of the state open defecation-free and expressing the hope that the state government and the people of the state will make the national Swachhta Abhiyan a part of their lives, Naidu had a special word of praise for the womenfolk of the state who had defied the odds to achieve remarkable success in various fields, especially sports.
Exhorting the people to cherish, imbibe and protect the rich ‘Sanskriti’ of the country and the concept of Bharatiyata (Indianness), he expressed happiness that Gita Jayanti celebrations in Kurukshetra and an international seminar on Gita were to be hosted by the Kurukshetra University, that the President will inaugurate on November 25.
He added that it was a matter of pride that the central government had selected two districts of Haryana, namely Karnal and Faridabad under the smart city scheme and the state government was developing Gurugram as a smart city from its own resources.
He hoped that the development of these cities under the smart city scheme would inspire other districts also to take benefit of this scheme.
He said that the IT-related exports from Haryana had played a significant role in developing the country as a super power in the field.
