65 illegal coaching centres sealed in Mukherjee Nagar and GTB Nagar

NEW DELHI: The North Delhi Municipal Corporation carried out a sealing drive against 65 coaching centres that were being run illegally from residential complexes in Mukherjee Nagar and GTB Nagar on Thursday. These centres also violated the Master Plan of Delhi-2021, said a North Corporation official.

“After the repeated complaints from locals about the nuisance created in residential areas due to illegal mushrooming of coaching centres, the civic agency came into action and served notices to 65 institutes amonth back,” said Yoginder Singh Mann, spokesperson, North Corporation.

“After that, 33 institutes were closedontheirown. However, the other 32 coaching institutes were still operating and thus the civic agency decided to seal them with the help of local police,” said Mann.

During the drive on Thursday, civic agency took affidavit from all the property owners confirming that no such commercial activities will be carried there in future.

“During sealing drive, we faced reluctance at some place but managed to seal the institutes with the help of police. The drive will continue in future and directions have been issued to others illegal institutes to shut their business as soon as possible,” said the official.

However, the residents are not happy with the move. “The matter is already in Delhi High Court. The civic agency came into action only after the court demanded status report about the number of illegal institutes ,” said I.P. Ran jan, general secretary, RWA Mukherjee Nagar (East).
