Three girls among five killed in two mishaps

FARIDKOT /BATHINDA: Five people were killed and five others injured in two mishaps in Punjab on Saturday. Three minor girls were killed when a truck rammed into a motorised cart at Kotkapura in Faridkot district. The deceased were identified as Jyoti 10, Gajna 12 and Naina 6, all residents of Bengali Basti.

The injured are Malkit Singh 30, Sito 30, Yankie 14, Aman, 7, and Nikka, 10. They are undergoing treatment. The accident took place on the Moga road where the visibility was poor due to heavy smog. The truck driver managed to flee from the spot. Station house officer Khem Chand Prashar said police have registered a case against unknown person under sections of 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

The bodies were handed over to the family after autopsy.

Two persons were killed when a car rammed into concrete material near the site of an underconst­ruction flyover on the Bathinda – Dabwwali road.

The mishap took place near the Ganapati Enclave here. Police said the driver of the taxi failed to notice the constructi­on material lying near the road due to smog. The vehicle was on its way from Chandigarh to Bathinda. The victims identified as Dheeraj Singh, a sepoy in army and a resident of Sikar in Rajasthan, and taxi driver Gurdyal Singh, a resident of Pathankot. Police have handed over the bodies to the families.
