THE GIRL HAS BEEN SENT FOR MEDICAL EXAMINATION WITH THE HELP OF THE CHILD WELFARE COMMITTEE, SAYS A LOCAL NGO

YAMUNANAGAR:A 15-year-old girl allegedly raped by her father-inlaw was rescued from a house in Jagadhari town of Yamunanagar district by the child welfare committee (CWC).

In her complaint, the victim said she was married off to a mentally challenged youth eight months ago after her mother got remarried. Her father raped her several times and wanted a child with her, she alleged.

Members of the CWC and an NGO, Child Helpline, said they got a complaint on the women helpline that the victim was married to a youth when she was 14 and was repeatedly raped by her father-in-law.

He also threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed this to anybody, Child Helpline director Anju Bajpai said.

“She also produced documents of her age as proof. We are investigating as how this minor was married off so that the people involved in the crime could also be booked,” Bajpai said.

The accused, who is a worker in local firm, refuted the allegations claiming that the matchmaker, a teacher in a private school where the girl was studying in Class 10, told them she was 18. He also refuted rape allegations.

Bajpai said the girl has been sent for medical examination with the help of the child welfare committee, which will file a police complaint against the accused.

Officials said no police complaint was filed yet in the case and investigations were on.
