BJP FACES NO THREAT, WILL SAIL TO AN EASY WIN: NITISH

-

PATNA: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar predicted that there was no threat to the BJP in Gujarat and said the party would sail to a comfortable win in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state.

Speaking at a programme organised by a television channel, Kumar, who walked out of the Grand Alliance in July to join hands with the BJP, said: “We must not forget that the Prime Minister hails from that state (Gujarat).

It is a sentiment which will influence the voters’ choice. We may even see the BJP winning a higher number of seats this time than it did in the 2012 assembly elections.”

Taking a veiled dig at the media for posing questions on BJP’s electoral prospects, the Janata Dal (United) chief said: “The BJP will win comfortably. Wait till the elections are over. Then we will see what you have to say.”

Kumar, who had parted ways with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2013, did not side with the claim that the upcoming Gujarat polls were the semi-final to the 2019 general elections.

“Today, elections are taking place in one or two states every year. It is just that lot of debate is taking place due to the media’s reach,” he said.

Justifying his decision to re-join the NDA, Kumar said the new BJP-backed government in the state had been working efficiently for the past four months. HTC
