Dera Sacha Sauda chief questioned for 4 hours in jail
PANCHKULA POLICE COMMISSIONER AS CHAWLA SAID HE SHOWED A BIT OF RESISTANCE DURING QUESTIONING
PANCHKULA:Panchkula police on Wednesday questioned rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim for four hours in connection with Panchkula arson triggered after his conviction by CBI court on August 25. Sources said police asked him nearly 150 questions inside Rohtak’s Sunaria jail where he is currently serving a 20-year sentence for raping two of his former female followers.
He was also asked whether he was aware of the August 17 meeting in which the entire plan to incite violence in Panchkula was hatched. The police, said sources, also confronted him with videos and other material evidences it gathered during its investigation
When contacted, Panchkula police commissioner AS Chawla said he showed a bit of resistance during questioning.
“We can’t reveal the outcome but we are certainly not ruling out his role in the Panchkula violence conspiracy,” he said.
Chawla also added that he may be questioned again since his replies will be minutely checked and cross-examined with the other accused in the case.
Police suspect that he might have played a vital role in directing his aides to create unrest, although it is still not clear whether police have enough evidence to prove it. Special permission was taken from Rohtak’s district magistrate.
