BATHINDA: The court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate Amanpreet Singh in Talwandi Sabo sent two gangsters — Harwinder Singh alias Bhinda and Gurwinder Singh alias Ginda — arrested on Friday from Gulabgarh village, in five-day police custody on Saturday. Two gangsters were killed and three held after an encounter. The five were accomplices of Punjab’s most wanted gangster Vicky Gounder, the mastermind of the Nabha jailbreak.

The post-mortem of slain gangsters Manpreet Singh Manna and Prabhdeep Singh was conducted at the Bathinda civil hospital on Saturday and bodies have been handed over to their family members. The injured gangster Amritpal Singh has been admitted at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. A forensic team from Chandigarh also inspected the crime spot.

Both the remanded gangsters will again be produced in court on December 21. Bathinda SSP Navin Singla said, “We will interrogate the gangsters.”

WERE NOT GANGSTERS, CLAIM FAMILIES

Jaswinder Kaur, mother of the slain gangster Manna said, “My son had committed petty crimes, but he was not a hardcore gangster. Police should have got him to surrender, instead of killing him. He had no connection with Vicky Gounder.”

Kulraj Singh, maternal uncle of the second gangster killed on Saturday, Prabhdeep, collected his body. A woman Abrin Kaur, claiming to Prabhdeep’s wife, said, “My husband was not a gangster and faced only one case.”

She added, “Prabhdeep was an engineer and left his job two months ago. We had recently shifted to Chandigarh. He had no connection with the Gounder gang.” She even claimed the couple planned to go abroad, but the case against her husband prevented them from doing so.

Kulraj, the uncle, who collected the body, said, “I am not aware if Prabhdeep had married and do not know the woman.”
