MUMBAI: Despite the Indian cricket team not being able to win even one of the six Test series it has played in South Africa so far, opener Murali Vijay feels that Virat Kohli’s men have a great chance of doing so when they tour the Rainbow nation next month. Talking to India Today, the stylish right hander said that the current Indian team is well equipped to do well overseas, but to do so, the players have to acclimatise with the new conditions very fast. As India are to play a majority of their cricket on foreign shores in the coming years, with the team scheduled to tour South Africa, England and Australia in the next 14 months, Vijay feels that the upcoming series against the Proteas is very crucial in setting the tone for the days ahead.

“It is going to be very important for us. If you think about short-team goals then yes, this series is very important for us to start. I personally think we are well equipped to do well. As I said, we’ve got to go there, get used to the conditions really fast and find a way to perform,” he was quoted as saying by India Today.

India are scheduled to play three Tests, six ODIs and three T20Is during their tour to South Africa. The first Test begins at Newlands in Cape Town on January 5.

Virat Kohli’s side has enjoyed a dream run of late with the team winning nine Test series on the trot under his leadership. But, their real test, many believe, will begin only now when they play overseas.
