5.97 lakh voters to decide fate of 453 candidates in Jalandhar

JALANDHAR :As many as 5.97 lakh voters on Sunday will decide the fate of 453 candidates who are in the fray for the elections of the Jalandhar municipal corporatio­n, municipal committees of Bhogpur and Goraya and nagar panchayats of Shahkot and Bilga in the district.

In the Jalandhar municipal corporatio­n, 305 candidates are contesting from 80 wards with 5.59 lakh voters of which 2.85 are male and 2.73 lakh female.

In the Bhogpur municipal committee, 8,814 voters (4,571 male and 4,243 female) will cast their ballot with 42 candidates in the fray from 13 wards.

From as many wards of the Goraya municipal committee, 10,265 voters (5,393 male and 4,872 females) will decide the fate of 39 candidates.

In 13 wards of the Shahkot nagar panchayat, 37 candidates are contesting.

As many as 10,829 voters (5,579 male and 5,250 female) will cast their ballot.

In the Bilga nagar panchayat, 8,013 voters (3,875 male and 4,138 female) will decide the fate of 38 candidates in 13 wards.

Jalandhar deputy commission­er Varinder Kumar Sharma said the polling for the municipal bodies will take place from 8am to 4pm.
