After postal ballots, Himachal records highest-ever voting at 75.28%

SHIMLA : With the inclusion of postal ballots, the polling percentage in Himachal Pradesh has reached an all-time high of 75.28%, against the 74.61% that was recorded on November 9 when the state went to polls.

The state has 37,574 service electors and 38,317 government employees were on polling duties. So far, 23, 598 ballet papers have been received from the service voters. Himachal has a large number of service voters because many people from the state are serving in defence forces. As far as the 38,317 government employees who were on polling duty, all of them have submitted their ballot papers.

Thus, since the voting on November 9, a total of 61,915 votes have been registered through postal ballots.

Chief electoral officer Pushpendra Rajput said, “On November 9, the polling percentage was 74.61%, an all-time high for the state. However, as ballot papers are being regularly received, the overall polling percentage as on December 14 has risen to 75.28%.”

However, the final voting percentage will be confirmed on Monday when the votes will be counted.

ADMINISTRA­TION GEARS UP FOR D-DAY

A team of 2,820 officials has been constitute­d to oversee the counting of votes in 48 stations.

This includes 940 supervisor­s, 940 counting assistants and 940 micro observers. He added that three-tier security arrangemen­ts are in place for counting process. Furthermor­e, there will be a complete ban on mobiles phones at all counting stations.
